TBS’s surreal comedy Angie Tribeca debuted last year to mostly positive reviews by audiences and critics alike. The series is a satirical send-up of police procedural series like NYPD Blue and CSI while also paying homage to the deadpan, zany humor of Airplane! and the Naked Gun franchise. Angie Tribeca was created by Steve and Nancy Carell, comedy veterans behind hit series like The Office and The Daily Show. Rashida Jones stars as Angie Tribeca, a lone wolf LAPD detective assigned to the Really Heinous Crimes Unit (RHCU), while fellow comedy veterans James Franco, Heather Graham, Rob Riggle, and the legendary Bill Murray appear in guest roles. The series wrapped up its third season in June with a guest appearance by Ed Helms. Now, hoping to capitalize on the series’ success, TBS has just announced they have renewed Angie Tribeca for a ten-episode fourth season.
TBS made the announcement at a press tour ahead of year’s Television Critics Awards, noting that the series has been steadily gaining viewers each season. The announcement also noted that Bobby Cannavale (Master of None) will be joining Angie Tribeca for the fourth season in a yet-to-be-named role.
Angie Tribeca currently boasts a 78% favorable rating on Metacritic and 74% average audience score on Rotten Tomatoes. The fourth season does not yet have a release date, but given that the second season debuted only six months after the first, fans might not have to wait much longer.
